“Come to Me all you who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls. (Matt 11 v28-30)
When we are beset by seemingly insurmountable pressures or problems we desperately need to get away from them to gather our strength again. Jesus promises to lift them completely from us as we trust Him. "A Father of the fatherless, a defender of widows" Psalm 68 v5.
Psalm 3 v3-4 says“But You O Lord are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the Lord with my voice and He heard me from His holy hill”
We don’t have to feel we are drowning in a broken marriage, financial ruin or the loss of a loved one, He is the “God of hope” (Romans 15 v13) and “the Father of mercies and God of all comfort” (2Cor 1v3-4) and He will show us a way through any problems by the power of His Holy Spirit who is called the Comforter or Helper (John 15 v26)
A woman came to our church some years ago, having twice tried to commit suicide, she reached out to Jesus in the waters of baptism and then received His Holy Spirit. Straight away she overcame her deep sense of guilt and depression, enabling her to live a full and happy life.
“If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8 v31)
“Yet in all these things He made us more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come nor height nor depth nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8 v37-39)
